#STARTUPDAY 2019 to be held at VEFRESH

This year #STARTUPDAY is triggering cross-industry cooperation by joining forces with VEFRESH and lighting up VEF district on September 12th.

In the startup world, your network is only as effective as your contacts. Your ability to cooperate and establish meaningful connections plays a crucial role in business success – unicorns are only born through deliberate, visionary and well-thought-out partnerships.

VEFRESH is an open innovation movement aiming to redevelop the VEF district as a pilot territory for smart city solutions. It’s a movement where corporations, startups, and the public sector can test their latest solutions in a public space. This year the main #STARTUPDAY activities will be held at the VEFRESH district, where we’re celebrating the start of an active business season by highlighting the fresh and edgy ideas of young entrepreneurs.

Viesturs Celmins, Social Anthropologist and VEFRESH Movement Leader, says: “VEFRESH was launched at the VEF district by technology companies Accenture Latvia and Latvijas Mobilais Telefons in collaboration with the VEF Culture Palace, as well as Jaunā Teika district and real estate developers New Hanza Capital. VEFRESH hosts the highest concentration of IT companies and professionals in the country (around 4000 IT employees), and aims to create an environment conducive to the development and piloting of export-capable innovations and new smart city technologies for the Baltic region. Establishing a partnership with #STARTUPDAY is a great opportunity for any company or organisation to promote discussion and build stronger bonds within the startup ecosystem across the Baltics. We’re looking forward to it!”

Emerging startups are greatly dependent on the networks in which they operate, their established contacts and the quality of the relationships they manage to build. We’re all involved in various different social bubbles and closed groups, which is why #STARTUPDAY is designed as an open platform for discussion and new cross-industry cooperation. It provides an equal opportunity for everyone to join the community, in addition to providing a special day to come together for a great #STARTUPDAY celebration!

Dagnija Lejina, Digital Freedom Festival Co-founder adds: “We want to challenge the bubble phenomenon, to step across the borders and prove that the startup ecosystem is no longer a closed community. We want to expose the vibrant and highly inclusive ecosystem of creative and ambitious individuals representing new generation professionals and businesses. One of the aims of the #STARTUPDAY project is to invite and educate a wider audience of entrepreneurs, policymakers, tech enthusiasts and all potential community contributors – to strive for cooperation between various business sectors across Latvia and the Baltics.”

#STARTUPDAY events include the Startup Ecosystem Forum, the Baltic Startup Brand Ranking pitch session, and a number of different workshops, lectures and discussions presented by #STARTUPDAY partners and contributors on September 12th. We’ll focus on the hottest industry topics: #HealthTech, #GreenTech, #SmartMobility and others. And of course, it’ll all wrap up with a #STARTUPDAY celebration and Official Party at VEFRESH!

This is an open call for community partners to join in on the #STARTUPDAY action with discussions and workshops.
