Startup Day Celebrated With a Far-Reaching Programme

For the second year Startup Day was celebrated in Riga with a far-reaching programme. The day highlights the contribution of startups to innovation and economic development in Latvia. Masterclasses, the Startup Community Forum, Startup Brand TOP10 presentations, the official Startup Day party and other events were held during the day, gathering more than 1000 attendees.

During the day anyone interested could attend the Startup Day open masterclasses and discussions. Attendees had the opportunity to gain new knowledge, skills and inspiration for developing their own startup, and also listened to experience stories from globally successful startups.

The second Startup Community Forum was held by the Latvian Startup Association Startin.lv in cooperation with the Ministry of Economics at the VEF Quarter, to promote dialogue between startups and the public, private and academic sectors, as well NGOs. The day closed with a Startup Day party sponsored by Magnetic Latvia Startup at AUTENTIKA cultural space.

During the Startup Day party the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia Director Andris Ozols, Digital Freedom Festival Co-founder Dagnija Lejiņa and other partners unveiled a “Unicorn” mural, symbolising every startups dream to grow a unicorn, or a startup worth USD 1 billion. The mural was created by artist Dainis Rudens, who is well known for the largest mural in Latvia – “Sun Thunder Daugava” (46 Tallinas Street).

The party also included a special Fuck-up Nights Startup Edition, where representatives from Anatomy Next, MINTOS, Motivio and Kurp.es shared their experience. In turn, during the Open Mic pitch session the boldest attendees climbed onstage to share their business ideas, even though some had little experience.  Music and ambiance was provided DJ Toms Grēviņš. For the closing four guys from the group Sub Scriptum from Madona stepped on stage performing both original songs, as well as popular covers.
