Exonicus, Amplicam and iLof Triumph at Digital Freedom Festival Startup Pitch Competitions

Latvian startup Exonicus won the pitch competition held by the world-leading accelerator 500 Startups, Portuguese startup iLof won the competition held by Dutch accelerator Rockstart and Latvian startup Amplicam won the competition organised by Latvia’s State Forests GEO and EIT Climate KIC at the Digital Freedom Festival.

Digital Freedom Festival Co-founder and startup pitch competition judge Uldis Leiterts: “Lately an increasing amount of investors and funds are including the Baltics in their area of interest. It’s because we have many experienced startups that have found unique and innovative solutions for serious issues. At the same time, I’m happy that more and more international companies are participating in the Digital Freedom Festival pitch competitions.”

Exonicus has created a virtual reality emergency medicine training simulator that helps medical students, residents, healthcare professionals. The company will receive a fast-track to the final interview round for the next accelerator batch in Silicon Valley. There they will fight for the opportunity to receive world-class mentoring, access to a USD 150 000 seed fund and participation in the 4-month accelerator programme.

iLof has created an Alzheimer’s drug discovery using bio-photonics and AI. The company will have the opportunity to take part in the final selection round for the Rockstart 6-month accelerator programme in the Netherlands. During the accelerator programme startups will have access to an EUR 20 000 euro cash prize, EUR 80 000 in indirect financing through office space rental and mentor support, as well as more than 50 various additional support tools valued at around EUR 100 000. The programme will also provide the opportunity to qualify for EUR 500 000 – 1 million in further investment.

Amplicam won the green tech competition held by Latvia’s State Forests with their wildfire detection and monitoring system. The company will have the opportunity to be mentored by Latvia’s State Forests experts and receive an invitation to participate in Latvia’s State Forests Innovation Day 2020.

Talking about the winners Uldis Leiterts emphasises: “Exonicus is a startup that’s chosen a very specific and complicated niche. They have enviable persistence and enthusiasm. ILof is using technology to solve a very complicated medical problem. Historically we’ve already beaten the illnesses where all patients require the same treatment, whereas with illnesses we’re now battling require a more individual approach and technology can help with that. Amplicam is extremely welcome in California where I live. For us detecting and extinguishing forest fires is a very real problem.”

Last year’s 500 Startups Pitch Competition winner was Latvian startup Asya, and the Rockstart Pitch Competition winner was CostPocket from Estonia.
